Modern brides and grooms know that anything goes on their wedding day, and it's okay to play with tradition. In fact, more and more men are opting for an alternative style to the typical black tux and grey suit (although we still love these classic options). Check out some of our favorite ways the guys have mixed it up for their big day.
Use of Color
Today’s popular options still come in blue and grey, and while they remain classic, we’ve been loving how the look is expanding. Brighter blues, richer hues, and lighter, more textured greys have made strong appearances in recent weddings.
Guys are getting into the mix and match trend, too! Different colored jackets and pants are other great options. A regal blue suit jacket is just as handsome and unique paired with tan or grey pants. Burgundy might be the alternative color of the fall season, showing up in full suits, separates, and men’s accents. You can also switch up your groom’s wedding day look from his groomsmen for a distinctive look.
Color blocking is also a huge trend. A black dress shirt looks modern and fashion-forward paired with a dark suit or tux. Or, we’ve been loving when a suit or tux has a varying lapel color.
Pattern Play
Pattern showcases a little more personality, we’ve found. There’s nothing quite like a patterned tie to show what your groom is all about, and we love the visual interest and variety it brings to color palettes. Summer florals, modern prints, and playful polka dots are just a few we adore.
Is your groom feeling a little more daring? Have him try on a patterned suit jacket. A subtle, tonal pattern looks incredibly elegant and sophisticated, especially for cooler weather weddings. Keeping the rest of the look clean is the key here.
Keeping it Casual
Rustic, casual or backyard weddings march to their own beat, sometimes. Your groom might love to wear jeans with a suit jacket of his choice. Steer him towards a darker wash so they’re not too casual, and suggest a nice shirt and tie combination under his jacket. He’ll look perfectly polished for a more casual setting.
